In-dig-e-nous: originating or occurring naturally in a particular place; native.

Moving the Gospel is not rocket science but it does require us to remember a few principles.   First, the Holy Spirit is the author and mover of hearts and souls. He is the true instigator of illumination of the truth of the Gospel on a persons being. And, He is the one that causes new birth.

Second, it is not about praying THE “sinners prayer” and a show of hands. It is about sharing the Good News of Salvation only found in Christ. It is about testifying what he has done for you, forgiving you and redeeming your life from your own sin and hopelessness. There is no model prayer! It’s crying out to God, calling on the name of Jesus as your new King, confessing with your mouth Jesus is Lord, believing in your heart that God did raise Jesus from the dead. Then, living it out in obedience for the rest of your life.

Salvation is revealed, obedience is taught! Jesus measured a Believer’s life by obedience, not a prayer!

Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. (John 14:23)

Third, it is about going and sharing, not really inviting to hear someone else tell the story of redemption in Christ. Any Follower of Christ is very much capable of doing that, even without a twelve-week training and memorizing course, a final exam and a certificate to hang on a wall! What happens the first 24 hours in a Believers life sets the stage for how they perceive their role in kingdom work.

The Gospel message is completely capable of working in any and all cultures. We MUST be careful not to just bring the Gospel…we MUST train locals to move the Gospel into their own people and teach them how to follow Christ and be disciples. The biblical pattern was for Gospel instigators to reach a few and train them to reach their own people.
