“Come and see the works of the Lord…Be still, and know that I am God…”  (Psalm 46:8-10)

There is one thing that resides at the core of every move of God…Prayer!  Why?  Well, I am learning prayer is not really about asking God as much as it is about agreeing with God.  Too many times, I orchestrate something and then ask God to bless or rescue it!  Prayer is the place you allow God to correct and set your heart in a way that you are joining him instead of him joining you!

Prayer is probably my weakest area of the disciplines of being a child of God.  I do pray always, asking God for the impossible and for his hand to be on someone or something…but rarely do I seek, because that would require me to be still and quiet.  We all know how hard that is for sure!  Maybe that’s why we never have enough time for anything else…because we do not first have time to be still and quiet before God…the results are an unanchored day!

I was reminded this past week of this, “If prayer is not the core or synergy of GMS, then you will never really know what to do and where to go!”  That’s not good since we ARE a global mission organization and therefor MUST make prayer the very center of our passions!  Before it can be the synergy of my mission organization, it has to be the synergy of my own life.

Jesus prayed much and without ceasing.  His goal was not as much to ask the Father but to hear the Father.  All through the Gospel of John, Jesus always said he does nothing without the permission of his Father and everything he does, his Father tells him to do.  Jesus lived by the will of God.  Two times in Scripture, Jesus prayed openly, “…Your will be done.”  One time was for teaching how to pray.  The other time was in the Garden before he was arrested.  But both times prove it to be critical to set our hearts on God’s will and not ours!  The will of God is the end that we must come to before we launch into anything.

Sometimes, the answer might be just to stop and see his glory, simply becoming satisfied being a child of God and needing nothing else!  After all, before anything else…I am his child!
